Chicago Bears first-year head coach Ben Johnson picked up his first win of the season last week against the Dallas Cowboys.

However, the week before, Johnson’s squad was dismantled by the Detroit Lions, the team where Johnson coached last year as the offensive coordinator.

During Johnson’s time in Detroit, many called him an offensive genius with the plays he would dial up for his offense. Last year against the Bears, Johnson and the Lions introduced the world to the “Stumblebum.”

When It Works

It was a beautifully designed play that saw Lions quarterback Jared Goff fake a fall, which led to a busted coverage touchdown pass to tight end Sam LaPorta.

On Sunday, Johnson attempted to pull the rabbit out of the hat one more time against the Las Vegas Raiders. But the play ended in an epic fail.

You have to give Bears quarterback Caleb Williams an A for effort. However, the play ended in such a dud manner that I don’t believe Johnson will be making that call again anytime soon.

After the Lions’ Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, many wondered if Johnson’s departure ended the team’s time as one of the best in the league. Since that loss, the Lions are 3-0, including that win over Johnson.

By the time this season ends, Johnson may wish he were still in Detroit.
