The Houston Texans finally got the job done against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, thanks in large part to rookie running back Woody Marks making the absolute most of his expanded role.
The offense showed up in ways fans have been waiting for all season. The defense pitched a shutout and continued its dominance. This was a much-needed win for Houston as they try to turn their season around.
The team looked more composed from top to bottom. They didn’t let the three-and-outs, sacks, and penalties slow them down. It doesn’t matter that it was against another unbeaten team, a win is a win in the NFL, and their victory over the Titans was one the Texans desperately needed.
Texans Offense Is Alive!
While the scoring onslaught did not begin until the fourth quarter, the Texans’ offense had its best showing so far this season. CJ Stroud was 22/28 for 233 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. When he had time to throw, he dissected the Titans’ defense.
The offensive line showed better poise, save for the Jeffery Simmons sack. They opened the running lanes up more, and the team didn’t have to constantly fight against second- and third-and-long scenarios.

Rookies Woody Marks and Jayden Higgins made their impact on the game. Marks had 17 carries for 69 yards, a touchdown and added four receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also made his presence felt in pass protection.
Higgins had one reception, but it was for 24 yards and a touchdown. All three touchdowns coming from the two standout rookies bodes well for the offensive identity going forward.
Texans Defense Pitches First Shutout Since 2010
The Texans’ defense continues its dominance, holding the Titans to zero points. It was the team’s first shutout since Nov. 28, 2010, also against the Titans. The defense currently leads the NFL in points allowed at 12.8 points a game.
The defensive line terrorized 2025 first overall pick quarterback Cam Ward, holding him to 10/26 for 108 yards and an interception. Danielle Hunter got to Ward twice, and Derek Stingley had the interception.
The Titans’ running game was just as ineffective, with Tony Pollard (64) and Ward (22) being the only positive runners.
Up Next
The Texans showed signs of the team that many expected to see out of the gate. The defense has been as good as advertised, and the offense seemingly made big strides in Week 4. They will need their A-Game next week against an injured Baltimore Ravens team, which has beaten Houston in 11 of their 13 matchups all-time. Houston steadied the ship for now; time to keep the momentum going.
