There’s a saying that people all over the world have used, and no matter how often you hear it, it finds a way to be true: there is always a Buffalo connection.
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the undefeated Buffalo Bills hosted the struggling New Orleans Saints in an NFL Week Four matchup at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Like with most Bills games, there are all sorts of pregame festivities that happen before kickoff. Some of them are independent, like condiments being squirted on people or folks finding a way to jump through tables. Other things are sponsored by the team and officially endorsed, like a military flyover.
The flyover that happened this past Sunday was extra special for Buffalo. Not only was the flyover done by the United States Air Force’s 914th Air Refueling Wing, which is based out of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, it featured a hometown kid who is a local hero and has made it big.
The man who piloted the 297,000-pound Boeing KC-135R Stratotanker was none other than Kevin Cully.

Cully, who was born and raised right here in Buffalo, New York, was at the controls of the KC-135R as it roared over Highmark Stadium on Sunday.
This Buffalo kid is the definition of a hometown hero.
Not only did Cully attend and graduate from Bishop Timon – St. Jude High School in Buffalo, he’s also been a member of the United States Air Force for nearly 10 years, in addition to being a Buffalo Police Officer. In the decade he’s spent defending our country, he recently earned his wings as a pilot and has now done something that very few people have ever done: represented Buffalo as a member of the Bills Mafia while flying over the stadium before a Bills game.
Let’s Go, Buffalo! And thank you, Lieutenant Cully, for everything you do for Buffalo.
