Robinson is reportedly in the mix for Oklahoma State’s head-coaching vacancy.
One week ago, it seemed like Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson’s job may be in danger. After the team was held scoreless in Week 3, some fans were calling for the Falcons to fire Robinson.
Fortunately, the second-year play-caller made the necessary adjustments to get Atlanta’s offense back on track in Week 4. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. passed for a career-high 313 yards in Sunday’s 34-27 win over the Washington Commanders.
Robinson was recently linked to the head coaching vacancy at Oklahoma State. According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Falcons offensive coordinator is on the short list to replace former head coach Mike Gundy.
Falcons OC Zac Robinson on ‘short list’ for OSU coaching gig
“Robinson, who also happens to be one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Oklahoma State history, is expected to be on the very short list for the now-vacant job of Cowboys head coach, multiple sources connected to the search say,” wrote Rapoport. “Sources close to the search say there has been no contact yet between Robinson and OSU.”
Gundy was fired last week after spending over 20 seasons at Oklahoma State. Now it appears that Robinson, who played for Gundy several years ago, could be in line to replace his former coach.
When asked about the rumors surrounding his offensive coordinator on Monday, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris seemed to take it as a positive for the entire organization.
“I don’t know if he’s been contacted by anybody from Oklahoma State, but we heard the rumors,” said Morris. “That’s great for him. We want teams to want our guys.”
The Falcons offense may have saved their season in Week 4, racking up four touchdowns and putting up 34 points. It was easily Robinson’s best game calling plays this season, and it happened to come the same week that he moved from the coaching box down to the sideline.
Atlanta has a bye week to recover before a brutal upcoming stretch of games. The team will face the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers in back-to-back weeks on national TV in Weeks 6 and 7.
