The San Francisco 49ers were hoping to get some version of good news throughout the week on their practice participation report. That wasn’t the case Tuesday where a handful of stars remained absent from the sessions.
Quarterback Brock Purdy and wide receivers Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall were all out of the second practice of their short week, marking consecutive absences for the key offensive trio.

Purdy is still dealing with a toe injury he suffered in Week 1 and tried to play through in Week 4. Jennings came back in Week 4 from an ankle injury he suffered in Week 2, but he sustained a rib injury against the Jacksonville Jaguars and is now uncertain for the 49ers’ Thursday Night Football matchup vs. the Los Angeles Rams. Pearsall also sustained a knee injury against the Jaguars leaving his status in the air for the short week.
Here’s the participation report from Tuesday’s walkthrough:
Did not participate
WR Jauan Jennings (ankle, rib)
Limited participation
DE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee)
DE Mykel Williams (wrist, oblique)
Full participation
RT Colton McKivitz (calf)
It’s not a huge surprise the 49ers aren’t rushing anyone back with a quick turnaround, but it would certainly be better news for them if any of that group was participating. The 49ers were able to overcome a handful of injury problems earlier in the year. At some point the list of absences from key contributors becomes untenable and winning any game, much less a road game on a short week against a very good division opponent, becomes a steep uphill climb.
