Tight end Darren Waller is the latest former New York Giants player to flourish with his new team. On Monday night, against the New York Jets, Waller, who unretired this past offseason to resume his career with the Miami Dolphins, caught two touchdowns and looked very much like the Pro Bowl player he once was.
Unlike the Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones scenarios, the Giants can actually benefit from a Waller resurgence. The trade with the Dolphins has a condition that could suddenly come to pass.

In July, the Giants sent Waller and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins for a 2026 sixth-round selection.
If Waller catches more than 50 passes this season, the Giants get to keep their seventh-round pick.
Waller made his season debut on Monday night and caught three passes in total. With the loss of star wide receiver Tyreek Hill to a knee injury, you can expect Waller to see more targets going forward.
With 13 games remaining, Waller needs to average 3.6 receptions per game to eclipse the 50 catch mark for the season. Just a reminder, though: Waller has not played since 2023 and has not played a full NFL schedule since 2020.
