SMU receives $1 million donation to Student-Athlete Benefit Fund from Dallas donors

On Wednesday SMU Athletics announced that it had received a $1 million donation to the Student-Athlete Benefit Fund from Doyle and Somer Glass.

The Glass family, who have “long been champions of SMU,” according to a press release by the SMU Mustang Club, is gifting the university its first seven-figure contribution toward SMU’s revenue-sharing-related fundraising initiatives.

“The Glass family has consistently answered the call at pivotal moments in our history,” SMU Director of Athletics Damon Evans said in a statement. “Their latest gift is not only a powerful endorsement of our student-athletes, it’s a forward-looking investment in the future of SMU Athletics. We’re incredibly grateful for their vision and leadership.”

The Student-Athlete Benefit Fund was created in response to the NCAA’s evolving revenue-sharing model and NIL landscape, according to the release. The fund supports SMU’s ability to provide direct financial benefits to student-athletes while sustaining the department’s momentum in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Doyle Glass is known for his work as a sculptor and a historical novelist. He and Somer currently reside in Dallas and are members of the Mustang Club.
