One day after Jacksonville Jaguars’ linebacker Devin Lloyd was named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against San Francisco, he is taking home another honor.
The NFL announced on Thursday that Lloyd was named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Month for September.

This doesn’t come as a surprise, given the fast start Lloyd has had to the season. While this past Sunday’s outing may have been Lloyd’s most productive, he’s been making high-impact plays for the Jaguars on a weekly basis.
Among all linebackers this season, Lloyd has the second-best grade from PFF. He’s also tied for second in pressures and is tied for the league lead in interceptions.
In this new look Jaguars’ defense, Lloyd has done a bit of everything throughout the first four weeks.
“I’m playing good football,” said Lloyd, via the AP. “I think as a team we’re all playing good football. Ultimately, I’m just focused on playing my best for the team so we can win. … We’re all playing off of each other.”

Under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, this is a more aggressive Jaguars’ defense in the front seven and a zone-heavy unit at the second and third levels. Lloyd has thrived in this system, both at the line of scrimmage and in coverage.
