Buffalo Bills veteran defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been watching from afar, and it is evident to him that New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye is starting to grow into his role.

Maye currently leads the NFL in completion percentage, and he has looked significantly more comfortable under center in his second NFL season. The Patriots have also paired him with offensive guru Josh McDaniels. It makes for a much different challenge than the ones the Bills faced last season.

Maye is also coming off a stellar performance in a blowout win over the Carolina Panthers. So he’ll be coming into Orchard Park with some momentum.

“Just like with any quarterback he’s beginning to grow,” said Oliver. “The game is looking like it’s slowing down for him a little bit. He uses his legs pretty well. We just gotta contain him, keep him in the pocket, and we’ll be alright.”

Oliver had a strong regular-season debut. He tallied six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. He has been battling an ankle injury that has kept him out for the last three games, but he was back at practice on Wednesday.

The Patriots will undoubtedly be monitoring Oliver’s injury situation closely. His absence from the game would be one less weapon to contend with on a tough Bills team.
