ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky called the lack of carries that Ravens running back Derrick Henry has gotten on early downs “shocking” and “unacceptable.”
Henry has 49 carries for 284 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, but the former NFL QB explained that after a conversation with a statistician, he realized that the Ravens ran the ball the fewest times on first and second down of any NFL team.

“I found this out about the Ravens, and it absolutely shocked me. A month into the season, the Baltimore Ravens — with Derrick Henry — are the 32nd-ranked offense in the NFL when it comes to giving the ball to their running back on first or second down,” Orlovsky said in a video posted to X on Thursday. “Meaning, they run the football on first and second down with their running backs the least out of everybody in the NFL. When they do it, they’re second in yards per carry at 6.0.”

Henry is coming off an incredible 2024 season, when he had a career-best 16 touchdowns with 1,921 yards on 325 rushing attempts.

He had eight carries when the Ravens lost to the Chiefs over the weekend, and the prior week, he had 12 carries in Baltimore’s loss to the Lions.
The eight carries against the Chiefs were his fewest since 2018, but Henry said he needs to find ways to make plays.

“I just try to take advantage of opportunities. I don’t try to get too caught up in that, just make something happen when I’m out there with the opportunity that I get,” Henry told reporters this week.
“Bring it on,” Henry added. “I look at it with a positive mindset. We’re 1-3. Nobody’s going to do it for us. We have to do the work.”
Baltimore can rectify its 1-3 start against the similarly 1-3 Texans in Week 5.
