The East Bernard Brahmas, led by senior quarterback Dan Bartlett’s five touchdown passes, pulled away in the second half to cruise past the host Rice Consolidated Raiders on Friday night, 49-28.

The victory pushes Coach Jeremy Jenkins’ Brahmas to 2-0 in District 14-3A, D2 and 3-3 overall while Rice Consolidated stays winless on the season at 0-6 overall and 0-2 in district.

“”Dan (Bartlett) was on fire again,” said Jenkins. “Our defensive intensity was down, but the offense picked us up.”

The game was tight early on as the two teams were tied up at 7-7 after the first quarter before East Bernard took a 28-14 lead into the half.

In other district action on Friday night, top-ranked Tidehaven remained unbeaten with a 35-14 win over Industrial while Brazos Consolidated cruised past Van Vleck, 49-22.

The Brahmas will return home to host county-rival Boling next week in a key district showdown.
