After Thursday night’s memorable 26-23 overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium, it’s safe to say the 49ers are on a roll.
But it isn’t any typical, early-season streak we’re talking about: San Francisco’s current NFC West record is perfect—and bodes well for its Super Bowl chances.
The 49ers have started the season 3-0 in the NFC West for the third time since 2002 (2019 & 2023) and the first time since the 2023 season, per San Francisco’s game notes.
The 49ers,now 4-1, are coming off a playoff-less 6-11 finish as the NFC West’s last-place team in 2024. But, as the fact points out, in the coach Kyle Shanahan era, the 49ers have made Super Bowl appearances the two times they’ve started the 3-0 in the division.
The 49ers by no means are locked in for postseason contention, let alone the Super Bowl, but early signs point to a resurging team despite dealing with a plethora of key injuries.
Thus far, San Francisco has picked up crucial wins over every divisional opponent.
Of course, the season is young—and the 49ers have plenty of subplots to iron out—but their NFC West record early on speaks volumes of what lies ahead for coach Shanahan and Co.
