A former Notre Dame football quarterback won’t have a long way to travel to call a NFL game on short notice.

Brady Quinn is set to call Sunday’s Indianapolis Colts game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He was in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday for Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” broadcast prior to Wisconsin and Michigan playing on the network.

Quinn, 40, is set to replace Mark Sanchez, who was arrested at an Indianapolis hospital while recovering from stab wounds for his role in an altercation, on the call for Colts-Raiders. Front Office Sports reported Quinn as the replacement.

Fox Sports PR has not returned a request for comment to IndyStar, nor made a public comment since the arrest.

It was announced that the 38-year-old Sanchez was in the hospital in stable condition by Fox and, shortly after, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department put out a statement that said a stab wound victim was still at the hospital. The incident involved two people around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, fewer than 36 hours before Sanchez was expected to be at Lucas Oil Stadium to call Sunday’s 1 p.m. game.

Police said at 5:15 p.m. Saturday that Sanchez had been arrested on allegations of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all misdemeanors. Sanchez was still hospitalized and had not yet been booked into the Adult Detention Center, police said.

Sanchez led USC to a Rose Bowl during a 2008 college football season in which he led the country in yards passing and passing touchdowns. He then was picked fifth overall in the 2009 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. He started for four seasons and was 4-2 in the playoffs and had the infamous “butt fumble” Thanksgiving Day 2012.

He suffered a season-ending injury cost him 2013. He then played over parts of four seasons with three teams in his final 17 games. He started calling games with Fox in 2021.
