Turn away, Browns and Jets fans.

Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold squared off in Seattle in a Sunday afternoon thriller. Mayfield ultimately outdueled Darnold as his Tampa Bay Buccaneers secured a 38-35 come-from behind win over Darnold’s Seattle Seahawks.

Mayfield led the Bucs to a game-tying touchdown with 1:08 remaining. Then a tough-luck Darnold interception set the Bucs up for a game-tying field goal as time expired. Darnold threw a pass that ricocheted off the helmet of a Bucs defensive end Logan Hall at the line of scrimmage and into the hands of linebacker Lavonte David.

The late turnover spoiled a four-touchdown day in which Darnold led the Seahawks to touchdowns on five consecutive possessions.

For the day, Mayfield completed 29 of 33 passes for 379 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. He hit for multiple big-chunk plays and threw the game-tying 11-yard touchdown to Sterling Shepard.

Mayfield bought time after being pressured on the red zone play and scrambled to his left, allowing Shepard to break free from his defender on the left side sideline. Mayfield then found Shepard for score with a pass between two Seattle defenders in the back of the end zone.

The score capped a five-play, 70-yard drive that took 2:10 off the clock after Darnold threw a go-ahead touchdown on the other end.

Darnold finished the day completing 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns. He led Seattle from a 13-0 first-half deficit to the late 35-28 lead thanks to five straight possessions that ended in the end zone. But it was his late turnover that set the Bucs up for the win.

Fans of the Browns and Jets teams that drafted them would surely relish the play of either quarterback. Instead, the former first-round castoffs continue to thrive in their new surroundings. The Bucs are now 4-1, while Darnold’s Seahawks drop to 3-2 with the loss.

There was concern in Tampa that the exit of former offensive coordinator Liam Coen to the Jacksonville Jaguars would temper an offense that thrived in Mayfield’s first two seasons with the Bucs. But there’s been little sign of decline this season thus far as the Bucs maintain control of the NFC South in their quest for a fifth consecutive division title.

Mayfield entered Sunday have thrown eight touchdowns and just one interception in Tampa Bay’s 3-1 start before his two-score, zero-turnover effort against the Seahawks. Injuries to top receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have also done little to slow Tampa down.

With both absent for multiple games this season, Mayfield’s looked to first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka as his No. 1 target to great success. Egbuka entered Sunday with a team-high 282 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 18 catches.

He added liberally to that tally against the Seahawks with seven catches for 163 yards and a touchdown. His catch of a 57-yard bomb from Mayfield in the third quarter tuned third-and-13 into first-and-goal and set up a go-ahead Bucs touchdown.
