The Minnesota Vikings will be leaving their 10-day international trip with a victory. They defeated the Cleveland Browns 21-17 in London on Sunday, seven days after losing 24-21 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The win puts the Vikings at 3-2 heading into their bye week.

Although the Vikings got the win, there were plenty of issues that they had to overcome. Those mistakes forced the Vikings to need a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to get the go-ahead score with 25 seconds left.

Here are some of the winners and losers from the game for the Vikings.

Winner: Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz didn’t have the best supporting cast around him heading into Sunday. The Vikings were without three starting offensive linemen and backup center Michael Jurgens. Even though the Browns entered the game at 1-3, their defensive line was their strength.

Wentz did take three sacks, but he was mostly great. He completed 25-of-34 passes for 236 yards and a 12-yard game-winning touchdown to Jordan Addison. This was a gutsy performance from Wentz, who left the game with a shoulder injury in the second quarter before returning with a sleeve under his shoulder pads when the second half began.

Loser: The run defense

The Vikings’ run defense got shredded for the second straight week. Cleveland entered the game with the third-fewest rushing yards in the league, but they ran 32 times for 140 yards and a touchdown on Sunday.

This was one week after the Steelers ran 29 times for 131 yards despite entering Week 4 with a bottom-five rushing attack. With the run game humming, the Browns were able to take pressure off of rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who was making his first career start.

Winner: Justin Jefferson

The best wide receiver in the league had his second straight 100-yard game on Sunday. He caught seven passes for 123 yards, including three receptions of 20-plus yards. It probably isn’t a coincidence that his two 100-yard performances have come in Jordan Addison’s first two games back from suspension.

Loser: Jordan Addison

Addison was benched in the first quarter of the game after missing a walkthrough this week, according to Kevin O’Connell. Although Addison still received overall support from O’Connell and Jefferson postgame, it was just the latest sign of immaturity that has plagued the talented young wideout since he entered the league in 2023.

Winner: Jordan Addison

However, Addison showed how important he is to the Vikings’ offense. His final stat line wasn’t spectacular, catching five passes for 41 yards. But he caught the final three passes of the Vikings’ game-winning drive for a total of 23 yards, including the 12-yard touchdown, which required impressive body control to come down in bounds. With Jefferson feasting downfield, Addison took advantage underneath and kept the offense moving forward.

Loser: The same mistakes

Had the Vikings lost, it would have been easy to point towards penalties and turnovers as the main culprits. A promising opening drive ended when Jordan Mason fumbled at the Vikings’ 47-yard line. Cleveland scored on the ensuing drive. In the fourth quarter, backup running back Zavier Scott fumbled at the Browns’ 42-yard line.

The Vikings were also penalized seven times for 50 yards. Several of these were pre-snap penalties, but two of these wiped out large gains in the run and pass game. If the Vikings want to beat teams like the Eagles and Chargers after their bye week, they have to clean up self-imposed errors.
