(KBTX) – The Texas A&M football team entered the top 5 of the Associated Press Top 25 for the first time since 2021 by moving up a position in Sunday’s poll.
A&M remained at No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The Aggies’ 31-9 win over Mississippi State Saturday pushed them ahead of previous AP No. 5 Oklahoma, despite the Sooners knocking off Kent State 44-0 Saturday.
A&M last claimed the No. 5 position in the Week 1 poll of 2021, moving up from preseason No. 6 though A&M was off during that Week Zero. The Aggies held No. 5 in the poll for seven straight weeks in 2020, before finishing the year at No. 4 with an Orange Bowl title.
It is the 83rd time in the history of the poll the Aggies have been in the top 5.
Ohio State remained atop the poll this week, followed by No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Oregon and No. 4 Ole Miss. Five Southeastern Conference teams sit in the top 10 this week.
With a loss at Florida Saturday, Texas fell completely out of the poll.
A&M have ranked matchups against No. 11 LSU and No. 14 Missouri remaining on their schedule.
According to ESPN, the Aggies rank No. 14 in FPI power index and hold a 66.6% chance of making the playoffs. The Aggies hold the No. 1 strength of record.
