The Kansas City Chiefs‘ defense has benefited from causing turnovers in recent weeks, with their Week 4 victory over the Baltimore Ravens serving as an example. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and All-Pro Chris Jones recently spoke with reporters, sharing their thoughts on creating opportunities for turnovers.
“Although I can’t remember too many – we call them MOBP, missed opportunities or big plays, I don’t remember too many that we’ve dropped.” Said Spagnuolo, “While I’m thinking of it, that was a heck of a play that Leo (Chenal) made. I don’t know how many linebackers – he did everything exactly right. Covered them with sticking in coverage, and when the tight end looked for the ball, he looked for it, and then he made a great play on that. Listen, that’s what it takes to get turnovers, great plays like that, or punch it out like what happened last night in the game (Rams vs. 49ers). We’re going to stay aggressive in that mindset, and we need to match their defense because their (Jacksonville Jaguars) defense is turning the ball over. So, if that happens on the other side of the ball, we have to find a way to match that.”

The Chiefs had two takeaways in last Sunday’s victory, including the first interception of Lamar Jackson this season.
“Absolutely. I think that’s something we harp on week in and week out. Turnovers, sacks, and affecting the quarterback,” said Jones, “I think they go hand in hand if we’re rushing like we should and forcing him to throw the ball quicker than his expected timing, then more turnovers will come, and then eventually more sacks will come from the d-line, not the linebackers or the DBs (Laughter).”
The Chiefs pressured on 51.9 percent of his dropbacks in Week 4, marking the second-straight week for Kansas City with a pressure rate over 50 percent.
