It was a banner type year for the Ohio State football program when it comes to the NFL draft. All told, 14 players heard their names called during the seven rounds of the annual spectacle, tying a program record and finishing just one shy of the all-time record for draft picks.
There isn’t a lot of time between the draft and rookie mini camps, as well as the feeding frenzy surrounding signing free agents, so that means things have to move pretty quick, and one of those items is assigning each newcomer a jersey number.
The NFL has tighter restrictions on what a player can wear based on their position, so some players have to give up that lifelong identity they’ve had in the game to fit into the NFL mold and nomenclature, so it’s always interesting to look back and forward with what jersey numbers each had and will have going forward in the League.
