The Chicago Bears‘ run game is the weak link for the offense through the first four games, and it’s hard to see that changing anytime soon. But one NFL analyst believes Chicago should consider making a move for a playmaking running back at the trade deadline to bolster their rushing attack.

Pro Football Network’s Josh Weil predicted one trade for every NFL team, and he believes the Bears should look to trade for Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, who’s in the third year of his rookie deal and has totaled 800-plus rushing yards in each of his first two seasons.

The proposed trade includes the Dolphins sending Achane to the Bears in exchange for running back Roschon Johnson and a 2026 second-round pick and 2026 fourth-round pick.

Here’s what Weil said about the predicted move:

It seems that the Chicago Bears will go all out to make this work for Caleb Williams, and you have to respect their commitment to the effort. However, to compete in this division, they must be bold and explore making a big splash to help take their 21st-ranked offense to the next level. Enter De’Von Achane.

Since he put on a Miami Dolphins uniform, Achane has been an impactful player. In 32 games played, he has 1,953 yards rushing, 932 yards receiving, and 26 total touchdowns. He has an outstandingly low cap hit of $1.73 million next season and will be eligible for an extension beyond that this season. The Bears need to take a chance here and get Williams, this Swiss army knife who makes everyone around him’s job easier, and take the next step as an offense.

There’s no denying Achane has been a playmaker for the Dolphins since he was drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, and he would an upgrade over D’Andre Swift. But the price might be too high as the Bears’ salary cap concerns for 2026 make those premium draft selections even more important.

Right now, Swift leads Chicago with 187 rushing yards and two touchdowns, although head coach Ben Johnson insists Swift isn’t the problem for the team’s 24th-ranked rushing attack. But would the Bears consider taking a swing for Achane, who could thrive in Johnson’s offense? We’ll see if general manager Ryan Poles is a buyer at the Nov. 4 deadline.
