The Arizona Cardinals are in offseason mode and we are days away from free agency and weeks from the NFL draft. Leading up to the start of free agency, we will take a look at each player on the roster or signed to a reserve deal and break down where they stand with the team.

We will look at their 2024 season, their contract status and what their status is for the coming offseason and 2025 season.

Next up is safety Jalen Thompson.

2024 Jalen Thompson stats, season

Constantly playing in the shadow of Budda Baker, Thompson is a consistent and reliable player on the back end of the defense. Last season, he started 15 games and was inactive for two, but played 98 percent of the snaps (944) in the games he played. Thompson was third on the team in tackles with 98 (61 solo/three for loss) and two fumble recoveries, two quarterback hits and three passes defensed.

2025 contract status

Entering the final year of his contract (there is a void year in 2026), Thomspon’s salary is $7.56 million with no guarantees. However, he is due a $2 million roster bonus on March 16 and his cap charge is scheduled to be $13.75 million.

Outlook for 2025

The presence of the roster bonus has led to speculation that Thompson could be cut prior to March 16 to save the cash and leave the team with $6.035 million of dead money against the cap. However, the Cardinals aren’t in need of the cap savings and while rookie Dadrion Taylor-Demerson showed promise last season, it’s a leap of faith to count on him being the same durable player throughout the season that Thompson has been in his career.
