The Buffalo Bills hit a roadblock in their 2025 season.
A 23-20 loss to Drake Maye, incredible drive, and that’s how the New England Patriots ended their winning streak, but the team isn’t panicking, at least not yet.
Between regrouping after the loss and dealing with losing DeWayne Carter for the entire year due to a torn Achilles, the Bills are juggling more than scoreboard pressure.
The front office seems to be eyeing a different kind of move before the trade deadline, one that involves trimming, not adding.
That’s where wide receiver Curtis Samuel enters the picture.

Heavy says the Bills might trade Curtis Samuel to the Miami Dolphins in a seventh-round pick swap.
It’s a small deal, but it could free up cap space and playing time. Bills would send Samuel and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Miami for the Dolphins’ 2026 seventh-rounder.
Samuel signed a three-year, $24 million deal with Buffalo in 2024, aiming to boost his career after three good seasons in Washington. But things didn’t click.
He ended last year with just 253 receiving yards and started 2025 inactive for three weeks. Since returning, he’s made only three catches for 35 yards and one touchdown.
The Dolphins, sitting at 1-4 and missing Tyreek Hill after a gruesome knee injury, could use a player like Samuel to add speed and versatility. He’d likely slide behind Jaylen Waddle and rookie Malik Washington in the pecking order.
The risk is minimal for the Bills. Miami doesn’t look like a serious threat this season, especially with head coach Mike McDaniel reportedly under pressure. The Bills’ real competition is Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Indianapolis, teams shaping up as true AFC contenders.
If general manager Brandon Beane can flip a struggling receiver for any future value, it’s a clever play. The move wouldn’t change the AFC power balance, but it could keep the Bills’ roster lean and ready for a deeper run later this year.
And if the Bills decide to pull the trigger soon, it might be the first of a few subtle tweaks before November’s trade deadline, moves that could matter more down the stretch than they seem right now.
