The veteran linebacker impressed at the Raiders‘ rookie camp and has earned a contract, according to ESPN.

Smith was a second round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2016.

He spent five seasons there and even made the Pro Bowl in 2019 after recording 142 tackles, nine passes defended and two forced fumbles.

And as he tightened up the Cowboys defence for another campaign, the Indiana-born star was given a $58million contract by Jerry Jones.

However, a drop in form and fitness issues followed before Smith was eventually let go after not waiving his injury guarantee clause.

The veteran has since jumped from team to team, spending time at the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints and the Raiders.

Smith was in Vegas for less than two months and only featured in one game, making 2 tackles in 25 defensive snaps.

He then went to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad but following his release was left without a team last season.

But the Raiders, who Tom Brady has a five per cent stake in, have now handed him a lifeline.

Smith has supposedly pocketed $33m during his NFL career so far.
