Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants quarterback, has been urged to seek advice from teammate Russell Wilson on how to better protect himself following a ‘reckless’ performance against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dart shone once again for Brian Daboll’s team on Thursday, completing 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and rushing for 58 yards on 13 carries in a 34-17 victory, making him only the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to rush for at least 50 yards in each of his first three starts.

However, Dart also took two sacks against the Eagles, one of which was a massive hit that led to a visit to the medical tent. This not only allowed Wilson to enter the game for a few plays, but it also caused Daboll to lose his cool in some tense on-field scenes with the medical staff.

After going down clutching his helmet after taking a hit on first-and-10 at the Eagles’ 44, Dart had to undergo concussion checks. He was eventually cleared to return to the field, but one former NFL star believes this should not become a regular occurrence.

Drew Bledsoe, who played for the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and Dallas Cowboys, is worried that Dart’s eagerness to return to the field and erratic playing style are putting him at risk of injury, leading him to suggest that Dart should follow Wilson’s example.

“I remember watching Russell Wilson play. When he would run, Russ has always had this knack for being able to run and make plays and never take the big hit,” Bledsoe began on the Up and Adams Show.

“If he just goes and puts on some Russell Wilson tapes and watches how Russ has protected himself over the years, that would be a great mentor.”

Beyond praising Wilson for his remarkable ability to stay healthy throughout his career, Bledsoe also pointed to Bills quarterback Josh Allen as an ideal role model for Dart to emulate.

Bledsoe explained that Allen’s physical style, where he “acts like a football player first and a quarterback second sometimes”, has helped him avoid major injuries throughout his NFL journey.

He’s now urging Dart to adopt similar strategies. “The best ability is availability,” Bledsoe emphasized.

“Hopefully, he can play the way he’s been playing and not get himself hurt.”

When Dart briefly left the game against the Eagles, the stadium’s silence quickly turned into deafening boos directed at Wilson after he entered for just two plays.

On second down, the 36 year old veteran handed off the ball, drawing murmurs from the crowd.

Then, facing third-and-nine, he dropped back and threw an errant pass to Jalin Hyatt that fell short of the first-down marker. The boos that followed were brutal and deafening, echoing around MetLife as Wilson trudged back to the bench.

This added another layer of disappointment to his season, having led the team to a dismal 0-3 start before being benched.
