The San Francisco 49ers started out the season with rookie quarterback Kurtis Rourke on the non-football injury list due to a torn ACL suffered in college. Then, in the season opener, starting quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a toe injury that has cost him three of the team’s first five games, and backup Mac Jones battled through injuries in Week 5 but was able to remain in the game.

Now, just ahead of the team’s Week 6 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has some apparent good news about San Francisco’s starter. According to Schefter, Purdy has a chance to return to action for Week 7, when the 49ers take on the Atlanta Falcons at Levi’s Stadium.

Schefter also confirmed that Jones, who is questionable for Sunday with an oblique injury, is expected to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

It will be great for San Francisco to see their offense run with their starting quarterback under center, but he didn’t look like himself when he tried to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars and apparently re-aggravated the injury.

If Purdy needs extra time and isn’t 100% the 49ers should be cautious with him.

They won’t look at it this way because it’s the NFL and every game is winnable and losable, but Atlanta is currently 2-2 and plays the Buffalo Bills on Monday night this week. Playing the Falcons on a shorter turnaround for them in Week 7 may be a spot that they can get through without Purdy.
