Late in the first quarter, DeMario Douglas believed he had his second touchdown of the afternoon in New Orleans.
As Drake Maye extended a play, Douglas shook free deep, and the quarterback hit him for a 61-yard touchdown — but there was a late penalty flag thrown. Stefon Diggs was flagged for offensive pass interference, though it appeared to be normal hand-fighting and was away from the play.
An angry Mike Vrabel gave the officials an earful on the sideline, while long-time Patriots captain David Andrews took to social media and posted a gif that said “what kinda (expletive) is that?”
“What are we doing?????? How was there a penalty on anyone there?????” Andrews wrote. “So they called it on Diggs???? …I’ve seen a lot of bad calls but idk that might top it.”
On the next play, a defensive pass interference flag was thrown on New Orleans, which could have been a make-up call, and New England went on to score a touchdown on the drive regardless.
