The Dallas Cowboys suffered yet another loss on Sunday, falling 30-27 to the Carolina Panthers.

Sunday’s Week 6 loss marks the Cowboys’ fourth game of the season allowing at least 30 points. Entering this week, Dallas had one of the statistically-worst defenses in the NFL, allowing 412.0 yards and 30.8 points per game.

That trend continued in Week 6, as Dallas allowed 410 total yards to Bryce Young and the Panthers offense. Young finished the game with 199 yards and three passing touchdowns, and former Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle shredded the Dallas defense for 239 scrimmage yards and a receiving touchdown.

After the disappointing loss, Cowboys legend Michael Irvin spoke out against his former team’s defense on Sunday, sending a clear message on social media.

“I have never seen an @NFL defense with so many people running WIDE OPEN!!!! @dallascowboys,” the Hall of Fame wide receiver wrote on X.

The Cowboys are playing in their first season under defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. After the game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his confidence in Eberflus as the DC moving forward.

“Matt’s a great coach. Everywhere he’s ever been he’s had good defenses. It’s not just Matt by himself. Matt’s trying. The players are trying. This is not a lack of effort,” Schottenheimer said, via team insider Jon Machota of The Athletic.

There’s no question that Dallas’ defense is losing the team games. Dak Prescott and the Cowboys’ offense are ranked No. 1 in the NFL in yards per game (406.6) and No. 4 in points per game (30.2) before Sunday’s loss to the Panthers.

Prescott completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions — and it still wasn’t enough to secure a victory.

The Dallas defense will face off against Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders’ offense in Week 7.
