With Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris sidelined, the Los Angeles Chargers have signed veteran running back Nyheim Hines to bolster their ground game.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chargers elevated Nyheim Hines to their roster ahead of their Week 6 road game against the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers signed Hines to their practice squad earlier this week, after placing Hampton on the injured reserve with an ankle injury.
The Chargers also lost free agent signing and four-time 1,000-yard rusher Najee Harris for the season with a torn Achilles in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos.
Along with Nyheim Hines, the other healthy running backs on the Chargers’ roster are Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal. Before his injury, Hampton had 314 rushing yards and two touchdowns in five games.
Hines hasn’t played an NFL game since the 2022 season. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2023 but suffered a horrific knee injury in a jet ski accident during the offseason and missed the entire year.
He was on the Cleveland Browns’ roster in 2024 but never played a snap for the club. He has 1,202 career rushing yards, 10 touchdowns and 1,778 receiving yards.
