Who has been the Houston Texans’ biggest breakout star this season? Has it been one of the rookies who are expected to be a foundation for the long-term future?

Has it been a rising defensive player that’s looking to get paid this offseason?

Actually no, it’s rather been a player who many assumed would be a backup swing guard and serve as nothing more than depth.

Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon mentioned the biggest breakout players in the NFL through the first month of action. When it came to the Texans, he chose fourth-year lineman Ed Ingram, who not only has been one of Houston’s better offensive linemen but also one of the league’s best run-protectors at any position.

“The Texans’ line has been through plenty of trials and tribulations, but Ingram has come over from the Vikings and shined at right guard,” Gagon wrote. “In fact, the 2022 second-round pick has the highest qualified PFF grade at the position.”

Through five games in 2025, Ingram has graded out by PFF with an overall 84.0, including a run blocking grade of 86.4, which is the second-highest mark behind only All-Pro Quenton Nelson. In terms of protection, Ingram has allowed just one sack and seven pressures while grading out with a 97.1 efficiency rating.

He’s also the only Texans offensive linemen not be penalized in over 260 offensive snaps.

The Texans’ offensive line is slightly improving in 2025, but there’s still a missing spark at some spots in pass protection. Ingram has been the best at nearly everything, which is somewhat surprising given his disastrous end in Minnesota last season.

Sometimes players need a change of scenery, and Ingram seems to be one of those players who fit into that narrativ for all the good reasons with the Texans.

Houston returns off its bye week to take on the Seattle Seahawks next Monday Night at Lumen Field on ABC.
