If Buffalo Bills running back James Cook wanted to quell any concern of a potential training camp holdout while he waits for a new deal, it certainly didn’t happen over the weekend.

Speaking at a poker event over the weekend, the Bills’ 1,000-yard rusher addressed his contract concerns and if he is considering a holdout at this time.

“I necessarily don’t want to talk about it right now, because it’s like, it’s something I want to hold in to myself … just let the business take care of the business,” Cook told Jon Sofen of Poker News.

The Georgia product and former second round pick has become a key part of Buffalo’s offense in recent years. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last two seasons and even led the league in rushing touchdowns last year with 16.

Cook has repeatedly made it clear that he is looking for a deal that pays him over $15 million per year – a price that the Bills are nowhere near considering at this time.

While a holdout would take things in a turn for the worst, the Bills and general manager Brandon Beane aren’t panicking just yet when it comes to their top running back.

“I know we’ve had people in the building that he’s been talking with, and I have no doubt when it’s time to play football, he’ll be ready to roll,” Beane told Adam Schein of Mad Dog Sports Radio.

As offseason workouts continue into the month of May, the Bills and Cook will be at the top of many people’s minds this offseason. If they can’t come to terms on a new deal, then things could get even uglier for both sides.
