As Choctaw County gets down the stretch of the football season, the Chargers are having some adjustments to the schedule.
The school announced on Monday that the Chargers’ October 31 game against Houston at home has now been canceled. Choctaw County coach Dillon Mitchell said that the cancelation was something that both schools agreed upon out of an abundance of caution ahead of the playoffs.
“Both parties agreed that it would be better for the teams if we cancelled,” Mitchell said. “We’ve both got the playoffs to prepare for, are going through a grueling division schedule and we felt like this was the best thing for our kids and our team.”
The Chargers (5-2, 2-0 Region 4-3A) have won the first two games of district play after dropping a contest to 4A Kosciusko. The defending 3A champions also lost to 7A Hernando but have knocked off East Webster, New Hope and Kemper County in non-district play as well.
Choctaw County is preparing for two incredibly important games ahead of the playoffs as it closes out the regular season with Noxubee County at home this week and Winona on the road next week. The Chargers will play just three regular season home games this season due to a couple of late changes to the schedule.
A win on Friday night would lock up at least one home playoff game, however, with Choctaw County securing a top two spot in the division.
