The San Francisco 49ers have had several injuries to key players through the first few weeks of the 2025 season, and that’s led to some constant changes to their practice squad to keep things going.
On Tuesday, San Francisco continued that trend, releasing defensive lineman Bruce Hector from the practice squad and bringing back offensive tackle Isaac Alarcon and defensive end Robert Beal Jr.
Hector, 31, was on the 49ers‘ practice squad after failing to make the roster out of training camp. Prior to his time in San Francisco, he played with the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions and New York Jets while recording 21 tackles (four for a loss), three quarterback hits and 1.5 sacks in 22 games.
Alarcon, 27, entered the NFL as an International Pathway Player in 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys out of ITESM. After four years in Dallas, he’s spent the last two with the 49ers. He was suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy, so he’s able to return this week.
Beal, 26, was the team’s fifth-round pick (No. 173 overall) in the 2023 NFL draft out of Georgia. He’s appeared in 19 career games for the 49ers, recording 22 tackles and a sack. He started the season on the practice squad but was promoted to the active roster in late September before being released on Saturday.
San Francisco has yet to use any of Beal’s three standard elevations, so they could call him up from the practice squad three times to help fill in for Nick Bosa, who is out for the year with a torn ACL.
