Kevin Thelwell is under increasing pressure at Rangers at the moment.

Thelwell joined Rangers in the summer after his departure from Everton, but his stint as sporting director has been extremely underwhelming.

Thelwell was a part of the Russell Martin appointment at Rangers, and his dealings in the transfer market have not worked out so far.

Martin has already gone, sacked after 17 matches, and some of the new signings look like they will not be far behind him.

The 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, the Gers’ majority owners, need to make a decision on Thelwell‘s future shortly.

A report from The Herald on 15 October claims that Thelwell currently retains the backing of the ownership, despite the turbulent circumstances.

It states it seems like a matter of time before his position will have to be addressed by the decision makers in Govan.

Thelwell has certainly not helped himself since joining the Light Blues, utilising his contacts for the majority of moves.

The signings of Nasser Djiga and Youssef Chermiti from his former clubs, Wolves and Everton, seem like ridiculous moves.

Djiga was signed on a season-long loan, and has made 12 appearances for the Gers, with one red cardChermiti has made six appearances, with no goals so far for the Light BluesThat signing looked particularly egregious, an £8million fee for a player who has not scored in 24 matches for the Blues

He also brought in ally Dan Purdy from the Toffees behind the scenes, but that was not the worst move.

He hired his son as the Gers’ head of recruitment in an appointment which caused a significant amount of controversy given the circumstances surrounding the Govan outfit at the minute.

If the decision makers in G51 decide to part ways with Thelwell, he will only have himself to blame for it, as he has made several strange decisions since taking the role.

He came with a solid reputation from his time with the Blues, but so far, that has not shown in Scotland.
