The Eagles had a lot to think about during their mini-bye after their surprising loss to the Giants last Thursday night. The biggest concern involves their offense, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that one player is experiencing flashbacks to a season that ended in a collapse.

In his weekly column with Dan Graziano, Fowler detailed his interaction with an unnamed Eagles player after the 34-17 loss at MetLife Stadium.

“I was at the game against the Giants on Thursday night and definitely sensed concern,” Fowler said. “One player told me that this is starting to feel like the 2023 meltdown all over again (when Philadelphia lost five of its last six games), and the team needs to use this week to figure things out and avoid a full-blown repeat. Right tackle Lane Johnson, whose words carry weight, told reporters that the offense felt predictable. The issue is pretty clear: The Eagles aren’t dominating in the running game the way they did a year ago.”

Through six games, the Eagles are ranked 30th in the league in total offense (274.5 yards per game). The run game has not had the same effectiveness that it had in 2024 (95.3 yards per game), which has led to the team finding itself needing more yards on second and third downs. The passing game has also suffered, with their 179.2 yards per game placing them 29th and their 5.5 yards per pass play tying them for 23rd.

During Tuesday’s news conference, Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo responded to the comment Johnson made after the game, saying changes

“I think when you talk about the situational stuff and the predictability, you have to look at the whole context,” Patullo said. ” I think over the weekend, we were able to look at where we were, where we are, where we want to go, and what we know we need to do to go forward, which I think was very productive. We had a good meeting yesterday as an offensive unit, and so I think we’re in a good spot working forward.”

During the Eagles’ collapse in 2023, the offense sputtered and failed to consistently move the ball and convert on third downs, resulting in the team losing six of their last seven games and then-offensive coordinator Brian Johnson being fired after the season.

The Eagles still have time to turn things around, starting Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, whose defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, is known for his aggressive blitzing. The Vikings are second in the league in blitz percentage (35.8%).
