Speculation has quickly emerged as to who could potentially be the long-term replacement for Brian Callahan after the Tennessee Titans parted ways with the head coach earlier this week. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the first name on the long list of potential candidates could be coming from the reigning AFC champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

There have been a number of excellent coaches to come from the Andy Reid coaching tree who have gone on to have excellent head coaching tenures, including the likes of John Harbaugh, Todd Bowles, and Sean McDermott.

However, when Matt Nagy tried his hand as a head coach with the Chicago Bears, things didn’t exactly go according to plan, lasting just four seasons before being let go in 2021.

Nagy would, of course, return to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator in 2023, a role he still serves in to this day, helping them win a Super Bowl championship in the process.

With this added track record of success as an offensive mind in his second tenure in Kansas City, Rapoport believes that Nagy is among the top names the Titans are considering in their coaching search due to his close relationship with Titans GM Mike Borgonzi.

“A couple (names) that have been mentioned to me. I would say Matt Nagy, who has a close relationship with Mike Borgonzi, the OC of the Chiefs,” said Rapoport. “Former Coach of the Year. Was a good coach with the Bears until he wasn’t. Sort of has gone back around and used that experience. He would be a name to watch.”

Given Nagy’s reputation as a quarterback guru, it certainly makes sense as to why the Titans may have interest in him as a potential replacement for Callahan.

Developing rookie quarterback Cam Ward will undoubtedly be one of the biggest responsibilities for whoever ultimately becomes the next head coach of the Titans. With Nagy’s background and time spent alongside Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, it sure seems like Ward may have his best chance playing under someone like Nagy.

If the Chiefs’ offense does perform well for the remainder of the 2025 season, Nagy may certainly be in line for another head coaching opportunity, whether that be in Tennessee or elswhere.

For the time being, Nagy will do his best to help the Chiefs maintain their status as one of the best teams in the AFC and prepare for a Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
