The New Orleans Saints have signed veteran wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones after a successful tryout at rookie minicamp over the weekend, as first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill and confirmed by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The Times-Picayune’s Matthew Paras added that this is a one-year deal for the 26-year old wideout.
First-year Saints head coach Kellen Moore praised the vet’s effort when speaking with reporters after Saturday’s practice session, saying that “It was awesome to see Donovan out there.” He continued: “He’s been a really productive player, just a couple years ago he had a ton of catches, a ton of production in Cleveland. Certainly a guy when you went through the draft process he was highly thought of, you want to keep an eye on those guys as you kind of go through this journey and give them a chance to compete. I thought he went out there and did an excellent job today.”

Peoples-Jones, listed at 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds, broke out with 61 receptions for 839 yards and 33 first downs (plus 3 touchdowns) in 2023 but struggled to maintain that pace, catching just 13 balls in 2024 between 7 games with the Browns and 8 with the Detroit Lions. He couldn’t get on the field in Detroit last year, but maybe he can help the Saints as their fourth or fifth receiver. He’ll have a long summer to make his case while competing with guys like Mason Tipton, Kevin Austin Jr., Dante Pettis and Cedrick Wilson Jr.
