The Detroit Lions are signing defensive back Jammie Robinson, a source confirmed to The Detroit News on Wednesday.
Robinson, who played collegiately at South Carolina (2019-20) and Florida State (2021-22), was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Robinson was with the Panthers until he was waived in December 2024 and subsequently claimed by the Arizona Cardinals. He was waived by the Cardinals in August and signed to the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad later that same month.
The Lions are dealing with a number of injuries in the secondary. Cornerback D.J. Reed (hamstring) is on injured reserve through Week 9, at minimum, and fellow cornerbacks Terrion Arnold (shoulder) and Avonte Maddox (hamstring) aren’t expected to play in Monday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also absent from that contest will be safety Brian Branch, who had his suspension upheld.
Robinson has appeared in 21 regular season games, all coming with the Panthers. He’s seasoned on special teams (365 career snaps) and has some defensive experience, with 76 snaps. He’s received 41 reps at nickel and 32 in the box, per Pro Football Focus. He also has two snaps at free safety.
