New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Efton Chism III is biding his time for an opportunity to help the team.

Nothing happens overnight, especially for an undrafted rookie who was a long-shot hopeful to make the team when he first signed. Yet, Chism was a standout wide receiver for the team throughout the spring practices and training camp.

He made so much of a good impression that fans are constantly wondering when they’ll finally see him lining up at receiver on game days. He recorded 12 receptions for 121 total receiving yards and two touchdowns in two preseason games. His best performance came against the Minnesota Vikings, when he tallied six receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown.

“Every rookie’s kinda navigating that, but I think for me, like, whatever I can do to help the team,” Chism told media members. “I know that that’s sometimes during the week, and maybe it’s not on Sundays. But I know I’m helping the team anyway I can and definitely just trying to learn the ways of somebody who’s done it before and their process and how it’s not all gonna happen overnight. So, just continue to stick with the process.”

Even after moving on from Kendrick Bourne, the wide receiver room in New England is crowded. As Chism continues to grow and improve, opportunities will continue to open up for him on offense.

Proving himself on special teams could be the launching pad that finally gets him on the field as a receiver on game days.
