ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky suggested the Pittsburgh Steelers could pursue a trade for Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson if they beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football and take control of their division.
Orlovsky was on ‘First Take’ on Thursday morning and brought up whether the Steelers would reach out to the Jets about Wilson.
“If the Steelers win tonight, this division is blouses,” Orlovsky said. “It’s a wrap. I think it would be a three-and-a-half-game lead on the division. Do you make a call to the New York Jets and see is Garrett Wilson available? Do you make a call to the Miami Dolphins and see if Jaylen Waddle is available? Do you call the Saints and see if Chris Olave is available?”
The Steelers find themselves in the predicament of looking for a wide receiver to complement DK Metcalf after they traded George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. Acquiring a player like Wilson would certainly strengthen their passing offense..
“Last year you remembered I said this offense can’t beat the good football teams,” Orlovsky said. “I don’t feel that way about this offense this year. This offense can beat the good football teams … I want to know how all-in Pittsburgh will go to really say we’re making a no-question, expectation-run at winning the Super Bowl.”
The Jets are currently 1-5 and are struggling offensively. Wilson, their best offensive weapon who signed a four-year, $130 million extension in July, is tied for fifth in the league in targets (56) and has caught 36 passes for 395 yards and four touchdowns. The Jets might consider trading Wilson if they believe the Steelers can offer substantial draft picks. These picks could then be used to address various positional needs.
