Jaylon Moore’s impressive start against the Lions wasn’t even the best part of his Sunday

  • October 17, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Last Sunday was a crazy – but exciting – day for Chiefs offensive tackle Jaylon Moore.

The craziness didn’t start with finding out he’d be starting at left tackle in prime time against the Detroit Lions, and that wasn’t even the best part of his day.

It was the birth of his third child early that morning that began a pretty memorable Sunday for Moore.

“Going on number three, it was awesome inviting baby girl into the world,” Moore told KCTV5 on Thursday.

Just a few hours after his first daughter’s birth, he and the rest of the Chiefs found out they’d be without 2025 first-round draft pick Josh Simmons.

“Not a shock, but, you just kinda gotta transition to get your mind ready to go,” he said about how he handles news like that.

So Moore did what he came to Kansas City to do.

“Try to get that mentality going, of establishing early. Especially having not played in a game for what, five, six weeks.”

Nagy also spoke on how difficult of a matchup the Chiefs will face against Maxx Crosby.

After an impressive performance protecting Patrick Mahomes’ blindside, Andy Reid let him lead the postgame huddle.

“It was an awesome experience to know that I’ve kinda earned a little bit more trust out of my teammates and my coaching staff,” he said about that postgame moment.

“What a credit to him,” offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said about Moore. “He just stayed true, time tested. And I think it was a pretty cool moment after the game when he broke down the huddle.”

With Simmons still away from the team, and no word on when he’ll return, Moore is staying ready to show up for his team in a big way once again this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Treating it as I would any other week. Preparing as if I’m gonna play. Obviously, I’m getting more reps with the 1s this week. So I feel good.”

He’s also excited for another big test against yet another elite pass rusher in Maxx Crosby.

The Chiefs will kickoff with the Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The game can be seen live on KCTV.
