All around the league, teams are already agreeing to contracts with their 2025 NFL draft picks. The Seattle Seahawks have yet to agree to terms with any of their league-high 11 selections. That’s hardly a concern, though discussions with second-round safety Nick Emmanwori may be significantly more complicated than initially believed.

The Seahawks traded up from No. 52 to 35th overall to select Emmanwori. He was the third overall selection of the second round. Last week, the Cleveland Browns signed 33rd pick Carson Schwesinger, and the Houston Texans inked No. 34 overall wide receiver Jayden Higgins.

Both Schwesinger and Higgins signed fully guaranteed rookie contracts. They become the first second-round rookies in NFL history to ink fully guaranteed deals. Surely, Emmanwori will now expect the Seahawks to negotiate a similar agreement.

John Schneider has been the Seahawks’ GM since 2010. He’s never signed a second-round selection to a fully-guaranteed NFL contract. The expectation has changed, and Schneider may be forced to break old habits. He can thank the Browns and Texans for setting league-wide precedent.

The Seahawks have high expectations for Emmanwori. The former South Carolina safety made a terrific impression on his teammates and reporters at rookie minicamp. Contract negotiations with Emmanwori just became complicated, but the Seahawks need to successfully discuss an agreement prior to training camp marking its arrival.
