We are two days away from the official NFL schedule release. The leaks have already started, but for the Washington Commanders, nothing was confirmed. That changed Monday evening when the Commanders revealed their first official game on the 2025 slate.
That’s right. The Commanders will host the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 16 showdown from Northwest Stadium. The game will be part of the NFL’s Saturday coverage just days before Christmas.
The Super Bowl champions open the season on Thursday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field. Washington and Philadelphia was a popular prediction for NFL opening night, but, instead, it will be another NFC East matchup between the Eagles and Cowboys.
While the game will draw outstanding ratings, it’s Dallas and Philadelphia after all, most fans would probably rather see Jayden Daniels and the Commanders against the Eagles. The two teams met three times last season, with the Eagles holding a 2-1 advantage.
Week 11 at Philadelphia: Eagles 26, Commanders 18
Week 16 at Washington: Commanders 36, Eagles 33
NFC Championship Game: Eagles 55, Commanders 23
Washington led most of the first game before the Eagles and Saquon Barkley took over in the fourth quarter. The Commanders turned the ball over five times in the Week 16 battle, but the Eagles’ top-ranked defense had no answer for Daniels, who threw five touchdown passes, including the game-winner with less than 10 seconds remaining.
Unfortunately for Washington, its dream season ended in the NFC championship game in Philadelphia.
