At this point, nothing can be counted out for the Cleveland Browns. If the Browns want to be a competent team in the future, sitting at 1-5 again this year, changes have to be made. They attempted to do so by naming Dillon Gabriel the starting quarterback, and for now, it seems like he’ll be the guy in charge for the next few weeks, at the very least.

However, if he were to go down or the Browns want to make another change, it seems like Shedeur Sanders would be the next in line to get the opportunity to play in the NFL.

Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland Browns

Sanders showed that he can be an above-average quarterback when needed, but fell in the draft after it was expected that he’d be a top-five pick.

It remains uncertain when the Browns plan to give him a chance, but according to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic, he believes Sanders isn’t ready and is unsure if he’ll have an opportunity to start in the near future.

“I don’t get the impression that he’s ‘ready,’ but I don’t know that it matters much,” Lloyd wrote. “If they crowbarred Johnny Manziel onto the field on a team that was actually in the division race, why wouldn’t they throw Sanders out there at some point, given the current mess?

“Look, we all know Sanders is a lightning rod. I don’t know what you think of him, but he comes off as quite likable in the few brief interactions I’ve had with him. It’s all the noise that comes with him that makes all of this difficult. I’ve written and said all I want to about Sanders until he takes the field. Ultimately, I believe the Browns will be right back in the quarterback lottery next year.”

To not give Sanders a chance and go out and draft a quarterback next year would be a bit surprising for the Browns to do, considering the lack of quarterback talent in next year’s draft.

However, if they find someone they love and believe that he’s better than Sanders, it’s the name of the game.
