Are the Chiefs officially back after their statement win on SNF?
The Chiefs reminded everyone why they’re still contenders, putting together their most complete performance of the season in a statement SNF win.
Sunday’s Week 7 is here, and with it, playoff positioning will begin to come to the forefront as we approach the halfway point. However, after last week’s results, the NFL MVP race received a shake-up. According to the latest NFL MVP odds, the favorite for the league’s most prestigious award has a new name next to it.
Quarterback Josh Allen is the reigning MVP and has spent the entire season as the favorite, according to BetMGM’s NFL MVP odds. That was until before Week 7, when the Kansas City Chiefs knocked off the Detroit Lions in impressive fashion.
The new leader in the clubhouse in MVP odds is Patrick Mahomes, who leapfrogged Allen entering Week 7.
Here are the favorites for the NFL MVP award in Week 7, according to BetMGM:
NFL MVP odds1. Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs: +200 (Last week +450)
The two-time NFL MVP has soared up the MVP odds early in 2025. He has a team-high 222 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns through the first six games, putting him on pace for a career high. He is sixth in passing yards (1,514) with 11 passing touchdowns. Mahomes has just two interceptions on the year and gets top wide receiver Rashee Rice back in the lineup in Week 7.
Kansas City is 3-3 after defeating the red-hot Detroit Lions on “Sunday Night Football,” which propelled Mahomes ahead of Allen. With Rice’s pending return in Week 7, Mahomes should see another boost in passing numbers.
2. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills: +275 (Last week +140)
The reigning MVP hasn’t skipped a beat much in 2025 and appeared to be running away with the award again, but a second consecutive loss has dropped Allen behind Mahomes.
The Bills are coming off their second loss in 2025 and Allen struggled against the Falcons on Monday night. He’s led the Bills to a 4-2 record thus far and Allen is ninth in passing yards with 1,397 and has 11 passing touchdowns to go with 254 rushing yards and three rushing scores. Buffalo is on a bye in Week 7 and returns for a matchup against a weak Panthers defense before Allen and Mahomes square off in Week 9 in a game that could go a long way in determining the MVP winner.
3. Baker Mayfield QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers +325 (Last week +750)
Consistently climbing in the MVP race is Baker Mayfield. Tampa Bay is off to a scorching 5-1 start. The former No. 1 overall pick has tossed 12 touchdowns and just one interception. He has led the Buccaneers to three comeback wins and, most recently, torched the 49ers without most of his weapons.
Mayfield is putting up terrific numbers without the likes of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving and rookie star Emeka Egbuka for significant stretches through the first six games. Like Mahomes last week, Mayfield will take on a tough Lions team. If Baker continues to cook against Detroit, he will surely continue his surge for the top spot in the MVP race.
T4. Drake Maye QB, New England Patriots: (+1500)
Drake Maye is the newest face to join the MVP race. The Patriots’ second-year signal caller has tossed the fifth-most passing yards (1,522) and 10 touchdowns to go with just two interceptions. The Patriots currently hold the top spot in the AFC East over Buffalo, and Maye defeated Allen and the Bills in Week 5, which helped boost his place in the rankings. New England has won three in a row and has the Titans and Browns on deck. With Maye continuing to blossom in his second season, look for him to make a statement in the next two games.
T4. Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions: (+1500)
Despite losing to the Chiefs last week, Goff continues to play good clean football. He leads the NFL with an astronomical 75.9% completion percentage and he’s on pace to break Drew Brees’ historic 74.4% mark in 2018. Goff is first in passing touchdowns (14) and 10th in passing yards.
The Lions are another 4-2 team and are eager to bounce back in the “Monday Night Football” showdown against the visiting Buccaneers. If Goff can lead his team to a fifth win and continue to put up massive numbers, he will jump the pack and push Allen and Mahomes for the top spot.
Detroit’s schedule will give Goff an opportunity to show he is worthy of MVP honors. The Lions’ next four matchups are against playoff teams from 2024. Goff can stake his claim for MVP honors if he continues the Lions on this upward trajectory against these opponents.
