BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Southern Head Football Coach Terrence Graves has been fired.
The university made the announcement Monday evening, October 20, just two days after the Jagquars were defeated during their homecoming game against Prairie View A&M 3-24.
Officials said a national search for Graves’ replacement has now started. In the meantime, Fred McNair will serve as interim head coach.
“I want to thank Coach Graves for the energy, determination, and for leading the team to a Western Division championship. Graves connection to Southern University runs deep — he will always be a Jaguar,” said Southern University Director of Athletics Roman Banks. “This was a difficult decision, but the results on the field were not acceptable. After evaluating every aspect of the football program. I believe it is in the best interests of Southern football student-athletes, our fans and our university.”
The Jaguars are 1-6 overall so far for the 2025 season.
