Sunday was emotional for several reasons, not just because of the wild comeback victory. The Denver Broncos honored Demaryius Thomas at halftime of the win over the New York Giants. The late DT was a franchise icon and a man who many respected off the field as well.
Left tackle Garett Bolles and wide receiver Courtland Sutton are the only two remaining teammates of Thomas still with the Broncos, and they shared an emotional embrace on the field after the game.

After the comeback win, Bolles spoke to reporters about what Thomas’ memory meant to him and Sutton. “(Thomas was) one of the best receivers ever to play in the Broncos uniform,” Bolles said. “Watching Court do his thing today just reminds me of so much of DT. It was a special moment that we shared on the field together, because I always tell him that DT looks down on both of us, and that’s what he did tonight.”
Bolles also relayed what this game meant to him personally. “I think it was just an emotional night for me, specifically with my relationship with DT,” said Bolles. “The love that I have for him, his family, and so many things I’ve learned from him. Obviously, you know me and Courtland are the only ones who played with him and I know he means a lot to Courtland. He’s the first guy who called me when I got drafted. Seeing his accolades and finally getting into the Broncos’ Ring of Fame [means a lot].”
Sutton honored Thomas by wearing DT’s No. 88 jersey during pregame and to his postgame press conference. “[B]eing able to celebrate DT – I talked to you guys earlier this week about how much he means to me and how much I cherish the relationship that I was able to have with him,” said Sutton. “It was an emotional day. I had to reel myself back in a little bit and just not let my emotions outweigh the focus that I needed to go out here and perform. To drive in and see the impact that he had on this city was… It was an emotional thing to see so many 88 jerseys, to know that everyone came out to not only support the Denver Broncos, but there was a vast number of people that came to support the legacy that DT left with this organization.”
The fact the Broncos came back and won made the day *that* much better. “We didn’t want there to be a dark cloud over something as special and as monumental in a sense for this organization,” Sutton said. “We didn’t want it to be an ‘L’, especially the way it was trending before the fourth quarter. We definitely didn’t want it to be something like that. So to be able to put together a fight the way we did and come out with a victory on such a special day celebrating two iconic pieces of this organization, it was amazing.”
