The Seattle Seahawks released veteran run-blocking tight end Eric Saubert on Wednesday, according to the NFL’s transactions report.

ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that, according to his understanding, the move is “merely procedural” and the Seahawks plan to re-sign Saubert to their practice squad.

Brock Huard expects a Seahawks move before NFL trade deadline

The move opens a spot on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster as they head into their Week 8 bye following a win over the Houston Texans on Monday night.

The NFL trade deadline is just around the corner on Nov. 4. Head coach Mike Macdonald also said Tuesday that rookie fullback Robbie Ouzts is expected to be activated off injured reserve ahead of Seattle’s Week 9 game against the Washington Commanders on Nov. 2.

A ninth-year veteran, Saubert has served as the Seahawks’ third tight end this season behind AJ Barner and rookie Elijah Arroyo. He has played 34% of Seattle’s offensive snaps and has logged the sixth-most special teams snaps on the team.

Saubert ranks 24th out of 76 tight ends in Pro Football Focus run block grading. He also has one catch for 12 yards.

Saubert signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in March after spending his first eight seasons with seven different teams.
