All right, Chris, it’s Panthers playbook. It’s a reaction episode. Bryce Young recorded Tom Palisero, high ankle sprain, expected to miss this week against the Buffalo Bills, potentially longer, but apparently the, the Panthers think it might only be a one-week thing. By the way, Panthers playbook sponsored by Wake Orthopedics. Let us know your thoughts on the comments about this injury and how this impacts the Carolina Panthers, Chris. Uh, going forward, I mean, just, or looking at this situation, you know you have A comp at least I would say a competent backup quarterback in 80 Dalton. We did see him come in last year after Bryce Young got bench and we saw him play well on some stretches. Now, we are definitely saw plenty of mistakes as well. There’s a reason why he’s still a backup in this league, but To me, when I look at this game now against Buffalo with Bryce Young being hurt. Give the ball to Rico, please. Give the ball to Rico, please. I mean, honestly, they should have done more of that versus the Jets too, but that’s, um, honestly, I don’t know I guess we’re called Bryce haters, but I was trying to really infer yesterday that Um, I didn’t really like the backup situation behind Bryce. So with him not being in this particular game, uh, it definitely gives the Panthers, um, you know, less of a chance to potentially upset the Bills, uh, but we’ve seen over the last few weeks, if you get the ball to Rico, Rico is what’s gonna help you out. Uh, there’s a variety of runs that you can call with them to keep the defense pretty much off kilter, um, and, uh, you can try to keep the ball for as long as possible. We saw a game yesterday, I believe the Kansas City Chiefs had a 40 minute time of possession in the NFL, like, that’s crazy, but when you 42 minutes is when you lean on a run, I mean, I’m not saying get 42 minutes because that’s gonna be nearly impossible, but you could try to aim for, you know, 33, 34 to keep the ball out of Josh Allen’s hands. And so, uh, you know, Rico Daddo, I think is a huge key to that, and um, you know, I hope that Andy Dalton is able to do his thing. Uh, I’m also interested in seeing, uh, what things look like for Hendon Hooker as the backup because even though right now we’re hearing maybe just a week, you never know with a high ankle spring. It could be a week, it could end up being 6 weeks. We, we don’t know right now. Hopefully it is just a week, uh, but you know, uh, definitely what you said, lean on Mr. Rico Dodo from AC Reynolds High School in Asheville, North Carolina. And, and honestly, when it comes to, you know, with injuries, you’re head and hookers won’t play away from being in. Yeah. Literally, like Andy Dalton could take a bad hit or something like that or whatever it might be, won’t play and before you know it, Hendon Hooker is there in the game. If there is a vulnerability, I know the Bills are coming off a by, Chris, which obviously, certainly that helps them a lot because like you, you mentioned this a couple of weeks ago. They’re kind of sputtering a little bit as a team. So I think the bye week for them probably came at a good time. But if you look at the Buffalo Bills, where are they most vulnerable? It’s the run defense. They give up a league worst, Chris, league worst 5.8 yards per carry. Dead last in the NFL 5.8 yards per carry. If there’s ever a game, if there’s ever a game, if there’s ever a game, if there’s ever a game where you hand the ball to #5, Rico. This is the one and use Chuba Hubbard to spell him when needed. But, but Rico’s got to get 25 minimum touches in this game, if not 30. It’s simple as that because here is something that the Buffalo Bills actually do excel at though, Chris. They actually do get pressure on the quarterback. Now, oftentimes they find themselves ahead in games, but if you look at pressure percentage, again, we’re basing this off of percentages, not just the total number, but percentages. So you look at the number of dropbacks by opponents and how often the Bills get pressure. It’s just under 27% of the time. It’s 4th highest in the NFL. They can get to the, they are built to play with the lead. That’s how they’re built. They’re built to play with the lead. And when you have Josh Allen at quarterback, it makes perfect sense. But as you mentioned, Shorten this game. Like shorten this game using Rico Dolo. Keep Josh Allen and that explosive offense off the field as best as you can. You have to, have to, Dave Canales, have to. You, you took the words. You took the word made your offense look the best that did all season in those two games against Miami and Dallas. Yes, you have to lean into it. That’s a plain and simple, plain and simple. Yeah, you took the words out of my mouth before, um, honestly, like, because I was gonna say, uh, Dave Canalis used to be going to Rico Dowdle today, asking him, do you have 25 to 30 in you on Sunday? And if you need a day off this week, whatever, you know, uh, you need, hey, we, we’re gonna need you for that. Hey, Cuba, we’re gonna try to get you 10 to 15. We’re gonna run. Heavy in this game and and try to make this um a shortened game, keep this in our uh wheelhouse, and try to come away with this big time win, and also not put Andy Dalton uh in harm’s way. He’s not as elusive as Bryce. Bryce is a smaller guy, but we’ve seen Bryce, he can make guys miss uh with his uh elusiveness. Andy Dalton’s not that way, and I would hope that maybe we have access to Damian Lewis, and maybe Damian Lewis is hopefully back this week, uh, because we’re gonna need as many of our number one guys on the line as possible against that pass rush, uh, because there will be opportunities to drop back to to pass, but then we’re also gonna have to make sure that we, uh, we feed the run. Um, I think this is also a good, uh, opportunity for our defense. Uh, you have JC Horn now, like, you know, we knew what he was, but he’s really like now on the scene, you check Twitter, a lot of people are like, JC Horn might be the best cornerback in the league and, you know, I think a lot of us have kind of felt that over the last year or so, anyway. And so now, what is Happen on that other side? How much will Josh Allen avoid throwing to JC Horn’s side? How will the Panthers’ defense adjust to that? How can, uh, uh, the pass rush get maybe a little bit better? How can, uh, Derek Brown really make that middle of, of that defensive line, uh, so strong and, and put so much stress on that offensive line that maybe can uh cause. Sorry, I’m having crazy problems over here with my allergies. So, apologies, but uh how can we make things, uh, you know, a little bit more uncomfortable for for Josh Allen? And uh there’s so many great opportunities for the Panthers in this game. Even without Bryce Young, you just have to make sure you have a smart game plan. Don’t try to overthink it. Yes, we know, they know that you’re gonna. They know that you’re gonna run it up their throat. You’re just gonna have to be better than them. Don’t try to overthink it, Dave Canales. Make sure you’re doing what the, what this team is really good at and that’s running the ball behind Rico. I think in terms of the play calling, or at least the style of play, because we know that Dave Canalas with, with Bryce Young likes to use the play action and bootlegs. That that’s what he’s talked about the, the passing game being built on that. I, I wonder because again, the, not as much mobility. With Andy Dalton at this stage of his career that it’s gonna limit that a little bit, but you might be able to do a little bit more in terms of your pocket passing. So there’s, so I don’t know if there’s a really a true reduction in terms of what this offense is really capable of running. I don’t think, like you see in some situations, like, all right, we’re the backup quarterback, the playbook shrinks by, you know, 40% or whatever it might be. I don’t think you have to do that with Andy Do. I really don’t think so. But I’m curious to see what the game plan that Dave Canales and the crew comes up with and just, and then, you know, long-term thinking here when Bryce Young comes back high ankle sprain. We talk about his mobility. That’s one of his best assets is being able to throw on the run and how much does that limit him as well when he comes back. And that’s, that’s a long-term discussion to think about as well, Chris. But you, you’re also when Bryce Young does come back, there’s that, that could limit him even further. That could limit him even further because we know he’s not a big time player in terms of his physical stature, but He can’t really stand in the pocket on a consistent basis and deliver. He has to be able to get on the move and run. And if you take that away from him, again, it restricts you even further. So I’m, I’m curious to see how that’s gonna play him, but that’s a long term thing when he comes back. I, I think this is a good opportunity to allow him to rest as much as possible. Um, the next two weeks will be very tough, right? Um, I wouldn’t want him to be thrown into a situation. Uh, that he’s not necessarily ready for. You might be able to get Andy Dalton to play some good football for you for the next 3 games. Bills, uh, Packers, and then Saints, and I really think there’s a chance you can really walk away from the next 3 games with a minimum of 2 wins, right? It’s a there’s a chance. Um, if you only walk away with one win, that’s still fine. You’re still 5 and 5 at that point and you can bring Bryce Young back with 3 weeks of rest on that ankle. So I, I don’t think that you’re in a, in a really bad position right now. It’s, it’s much better to make sure that Bryce can finish the season than to need him in his middle part. Uh, that we’re coming in, and also, you know, we have a bye week coming up at the first week of December, so it’s still got a little bit to go, but like, don’t rush him too much. We still have another period of rest that he can end up having so he can have a strong end to the season. That’s all good points, all good points. If they can get through the next 3 games, they come out, hey, you’re 5 and 5. You have a chance. You have a chance. That’s the thing. You have a chance when it comes to making the playoffs potentially. I just hope that the, uh, The, the play calling is much better than it was against the New York Jets. I just hope that’s the case. But we have Bryce Young, again, let us know your thoughts, the ankle injury, what you think this team is capable of doing with Bryce Young being out in 80 Dalton under center for at least this coming game against the Buffalo Bills, possibly longer as well. Shout out to Wake Orthopedics sponsoring Panthers Playbook. We’ll have another episode for you all on Thursday, Chris. We’ll see you then.
