The on-again, off-again relationship between the Dallas Cowboys and undrafted free-agent rookie defensive back Zion Childress added another chapter on Wednesday. Childress made the initial 53-man roster but was waived shortly after in favor of defensive backs Reddy Steward and Trikweze Bridges, who were cut after spending training camp time with other teams.

After signing with Dallas’ practice squad, he was elevated on gameday two times in three weeks before being poached by the Houston Texans, who added him to their 53-man roster. However he was released by Houston on Monday after failing to play a single snap for the Texans.

Now, the former Kentucky product has re-signed to the Dallas practice squad.

Practice squad players can only be elevated three times during a season, but Dallas will be able to take advantage of a loophole. Since Childress was signed to another team’s active roster, he is eligible to be elevated an additional three games by the Cowboys.

In the obligatory corresponding move, wideout Jalen Brooks was placed on the practice squad version of the injured list to make room for Childress.
