The New York Giants are one of the more intriguing teams to watch heading into the NFL trade deadline. They are just 2-5, so they aren’t playoff contenders, but they could definitely try to buy some pieces to help Jaxson Dart (they need a wide receiver), and at the same time, they could also sell.
The Giants have some obvious candidates to potentially move before Nov. 4, quarterback Russell Wilson and running back Devin Singletary being chief among them. But then there is edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, who finds himself in a very tough position in New York.

Why? Because Thibodeaux has just one year remaining on his contract and is playing on a defense that already signed Brian Burns to a five-year, $141 million deal last year and just drafted Abdul Carter.
The Giants took Carter with the No. 3 overall pick. He is widely viewed as a generational talent, so chances are, he will be in New York for the long haul. He becomes eligible for a contract extension after 2027, and barring injuries or Carter being a complete bust (the latter of which doesn’t seem likely), he’ll probably get paid.

That leaves Thibodeaux in no-man’s land. He is a very good player, but the Giants almost certainly aren’t paying three edge rushers big money, and the fact that Spotrac is projecting the former first-round pick to land a four-year, $87 million contract once he hits free agency (after 2026) probably means his days in the Big Apple are numbered.
Should New York make Thibodeaux available before the deadline, he would immediately become one of most sought-after players on the block. The 24-year-old racked up 11.5 sacks in 2023, and he has played well thus far in 2025, having logged 16 tackles, 2.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits.
The Giants could probably bag a Day 2 pick in return for Thibodeaux, especially considering the premium placed upon edge rushers in today’s game. The San Francisco 49ers have already been floated by some as a potential destination for the University of Oregon product, and a plethora of other teams would surely jump in on the bidding if Thibodeaux hits the market (the trade market, that is).
The fact that Thibodeaux wouldn’t be a half-season rental would also increase his value, and financially speaking, the hit wouldn’t be all that significant (Thibodeaux carries a $14.8 million cap hit for 2026).

It seems rather likely that Thibodeaux will either get traded prior to the deadline or during the offseason, as the Giants just don’t really have room for him long term.
If and when rival squads are given the green light to put in their offers for the young pass rusher, expect quite the sweepstakes to commence.
