The Beacon House Falcons, D.C.’s football team of 7-year-olds, has a chance to win the Capital Youth Athletic Conference’s city title.

You will have to wait until Monday night to see the Commanders take on the Kansas City Chiefs. But on Saturday, Washington’s other football team was on the field at the Edgewood Recreation Center competing to play next for the Capital Youth Athletic Conference’s city title.

The 7-year-olds on the Beacon House Falcons beat the South Bowie Sharks 36-0.

Following the game, Falcons quarterback Dasean Humphrey gave an overview of their victory.

“We had a lot of touchdowns,” Humphrey said. “Our players was running fast and running physical.”

A win by that wide of a margin was not a surprise to Falcons player Logan Wagoner, who said “we always do.”

The 7-year-old said the reason is because the team works really hard and they practice.

The team’s record this season is 8-1-1 and their coach believes the sky is the limit for this team.

“If they stay focused and keep doing the things that I know they can do, we can go all the way to nationals,” Falcons head coach James Gray said.

Not only is Gray one of the team’s coaches, but he is also assistant athletic director at Beacon House, which is an afterschool education and youth development program that serves nearly 400 kids between 5-18 years old.

When asked if there was a secret to coaching a group of 7-year-old children, Gray only needed one word to answer.

“Patience,” he said.
